‘Tis the Season To Barbeque

Warmer weather is upon us. The days are getting longer. No doubt you’re spending more time outdoors, after having been cooped up indoors for the past few months, trying to keep yourself and your family healthy and safe in the age of Covid-19. You’re outside gardening, walking, or simply relaxing and enjoying your surroundings.

Now that you’re spending more time outside, why not have a barbeque? It doesn’t have to be a big gathering like you might’ve had in the past. Have a barbeque for yourself or for your immediate family. If you do invite another friend or two, just remember to stay outside and maintain social distance.

Your menu doesn’t have to include beefy hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, or chicken. Plan a vegan barbeque using SUUP’s plant cuts. Our Pepperoni, Thai-Style Chorizo, or Kosher-style Salami are ready to eat, so you can just slice them and warm them on the grill for a few minutes before serving. Smear BBQ sauce, or even a fruity chutney, on the plant cuts before or after grilling them. Our seasoning and your choice of sauce can create a bold taste experience!

SUUP’s ready-made Smoky, Meaty, Sticky Vegan BBQ Ribs are ideal to serve.
Made with seitan, the ribs are marinated in—then smothered with—our house-made smoky-sweet sauce. Although you need to reheat them for just a few minutes, they taste as if they’ve been slowly grilled for hours. Believe me when I say that you won’t want to stop at eating just a couple of ribs. Oh, and be sure to have lots of napkins handy…that sauce of ours finds its sticky way onto your fingers.

Wondering what sides to serve with your ribs or plant cuts? Portobello mushroom caps, zucchini, bell peppers, cauliflower, red or sweet onions, and corn on the cob are perfect choices for grilling. Prepare them in manageable slices or chunks. You don’t need to season them with anything more than olive oil, salt and pepper, but you can always add more herbs and spices of your choice.  And when paired with SUUP’s Lemon Lovers’ Hummus and Harissa Roasted Red Pepper Salad, your vegetables will be even tastier when dipped.

Did you know that you can grill fruit? Pineapple might be your first thought, but sliced pears, peaches and nectarines, as well as mango, are perfect to throw on the barbeque too. And it’s not every day that you get to see grill marks on a slice of fruit! When you grill fruit, the natural sugars caramelize and bring out the rich flavour.

Combine the sweetness of grilled fruit with the savoury of our plant cuts or ribs, and you create something really special. Your taste buds will be bursting and saying, “Zesty, meet sweet. Sweet, meet zesty.”

A vegan barbeque can be a lot of fun. And when you invite SUUP to be your guest, it becomes that much more tasty!
